The Growing Popularity of Notebook Computers

HP 6530b Notebook PC

Notebook computers have quickly become the most sought after computers on the home user market. So far in 2009, if you were to check the top selling laptop computers on Amazon.com on any given day, there is a good chance the majority if not all of the top models would be notebooks. Consumers have made their love for these mini notebooks obvious.

Perhaps you are considering buying a notebook and would like to know more about them. Or maybe you are curious as to why they have become such a major hit with consumers. The following is a brief overview of notebooks and a discussion of the factors that have led to their popularity.

The first thing you notice about notebooks is that they are far more compact than the laptops you are likely used to seeing. Their small footprint allows for an extremely portable computer, but one that sacrifices power and functionality. Notebook owners typically are not able to run resource intensive such as office suites directly on the notebook. Notebooks usually use Windows XP or Linux for their operating system.

Since notebooks are not high powered enough to run demanding business software or say video editing software, what can you do with a notebook? Well, Wi-Fi integration is a standard feature of notebooks so most Internet based applications poses few problems for notebook users. That means staying in communication with family and friends via email, instant messaging or Internet phone is generally possible without issue. Also, using browser based programs like Base camp, Hotmail or Google Docs is normally easily accomplished as well.

The appeal of the notebook lies both in its attractive pricing and its superior portability. Students, leisure travelers and non power users who want to keep in touch from almost anywhere can benefit greatly from both the low cost and the ability to take a notebook along to most places.

Computer components are constantly in a state of getting faster, more powerful and often smaller. As the technology continues to evolve, consumers may soon see notebooks evolve as well. Future notebook computers may come equipped with more power and more robust features. Presently, notebooks provide an alternative for laptop buyers looking to save money and have mobile access to several useful features.

Presently, notebook users are forced to trade performance and functionality for cost and convenience. The success of notebooks indicates, however, that consumers are more than willing to make this tradeoff. Price and ease of use are likely always going to be a key factor in the purchasing decisions of a large number of potential laptop buyers. It stands to reason that while their popularity may dip, a strong market consisting of those with less performance requirements and who aren't willing to pay for features they don't need should continue to develop.

The Hewlett Packard Road To Success

HP LaserJet P3005dn Printer

Hewlett Packard is one of the world's biggest manufacturers of printers, inkjet cartridges, photo paper, and toner. But everyone has to start somewhere, and for Hewlett and his partner Packard, that somewhere was in a beat-down shed behind Hewlett's house.

The Hewlett Packard Rise to Fame

Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard met on a social outing with friends. Both were Stanford University students with a good background in technology. With the moral support of their professor, Hewlett and Packard decided to invest their money into creating their own business. As luck would have it, they met almost instant success with their audio oscillator.

Over the years the two gain employees, enjoy million in revenue, and continue to produce electronics equipment. The company keeps with testing and measuring subjects, and eventually develops the oscilloscope a vital tool in testing electronic circuits. With their vast success in the United States, Hewlett Packard expands overseas into multiple countries.

The 1960's bring the foundation of Hewlett Packard's success in the printing market. They develop personal computers, operating systems, and calculators that change the world of engineering of their day and age. But Hewlett Packard doesn't make their debut in the printing market for another 20 years.

Hewlett Packard Gains Credibility in the Printing Industry

Printers become mainstream later on in the 1980's with the release of the DeskJet printer. The DeskJet allows for consumers to afford a printing solution that doesn't cost a fortune to maintain ink and paper supplies. HP manages to make the top 50 list in the Fortune 500 listings as a result of their success in the printing industry.

Hewlett Packard Continues to Expand

Hewlett Packard goes on to release the color inkjet printer in the 1990's. This enables consumers to not only afford a printer, but to print items in color. This proves that the labs at HP are working around the clock to get technology out to consumers long before the competition can.

Hewlett Packard in Today's Economy

Hewlett Packard is still running strong today, keeping at the forefront of innovation and technology. Both founders of the company have been since deceased, but their aspirations and beliefs remain within the company's goals.

Hewlett Packard released the fastest printer of 2005, claiming the long-held title of best in the industry. Personal and business users both remain completely faithful in the company's direction- as they have remained to be the leader throughout several decades of competition.

As for Hewlett and Packard, their dinky shed was restored and declared a landmark. It remains to be the very site where a Fortune 500 company was imagined, made, and held true to their standards and thirst for technology even almost a century later.

Buying a Hewlett Packard Computer

HP ProBook 4710s

Buying a new computer or laptop isn't always plain sailing. I might not be an issue for you if you use a computer daily in your business, but for your average Joe it can be daunting trying to find the right one. One thing to definitely consider is what features you want. Then you can search the best brand and deal out there for you.

When I bought my laptop, I looked at all different makes and models of machines, but ended up with an HP computer, a Pavilion model to be precise, and I am glad that I made that purchase.

For the year or so that I have had it, it's been very reliable. I did have a problem with the power transformer, but this was a problem that affected many models of HP computers, which meant that Hewlett Packard support jumped on the case quickly, and it was fixed and sent back to me in under a week.

I have heard horror stories about some other brands, but I can honestly say that HP computers are well built, but when there is a problem, they are on the ball about getting things rectified.

I didn't choose a HP computer because of the customer service though. What I liked was that they were amazing value for money. They came with many features that I use for my job and for leisure time, at a fraction of the cost of other machines that weren't as feature packed. This is when features are most important, as everyone does different things with their computers.

HP computers have something for all. It was not very hard for me to choose what model I wanted. They were all pretty much the same except for memory capacity and processor speed, which can vary.

You don't have to buy a HP Laptop computer if you don't want to, but ask anyone who has one and I'm sure all you will get is a glowing report. My HP computer has everything I could want, which is important as I use it every day.

With only one problem, which was rectified rather quickly, I am glad that I took a chance with HP computers. I had heard they were not that great, but I have to say that I totally disagree.

How Laptops Are Changing This World

HP 2133 Laptop Computers

Another mini revolution that has overtaken the world is the advent of laptops. A major computer maker, Toshiba, in conjunction with Sony Computers, got together and decided to shrink the personal computer (PC) in order to make it smaller and portable. This meant that personal computing was no longer limited to just sitting behind a desk. One could now pack their computer into a small carrier bag and go off with it.

The basic thought behind the "Laptop" word was any one can use this minicomputer on one's lap. Laptop is the miniature form of "desktop" and is also portable for its light weight. Desktop is put on a desk at office or home. Today, laptop is being preferred more than desktops.

A laptop is manufactured with some usual components of personal computers. No sooner had it launched in than some major computer companies such as Dell, Toshiba, Sony, HP-Compaq and others like Acer, Lenovo etc. made a huge profit.

This was a welcome relief because it equipped buys with the power to choose exactly what they wanted to be included in their new computer in terms of memory size, hard-drive size, processor speed and more.

For the first time customization was made with its components. Though customization has made computer performances at a better label but now customizations are proceeding further to change the computer looks.

At first the laptops mainly came in two colors- black and grey, but now they come in many colors. One of the most popular of the colors in the open market is pink. Now the companies manufacture laptops in various shades to meet the market demands.

But today, laptops are not the sole domain of lone businessmen, researchers working on projects or lecturers and teachers. This is partly because they have become more hip and also because of what computers are used for. Computers used to be created for work-related tasks and that is why they were popular with businessmen and researchers and others.

In the initial phase of the computers they were created mainly for work-related purposes, for researchers, businessmen, etc. But today these notebooks, as the laptops are popularly called these days, have become multimedia centered with increased processor speeds, more RAM and more storage. They are also used for various multimedia purposes.
