Hound for iPhone, Android and iPad: Search for music with your voice

By: Aseem Gaurav on May 30, 2011

SoundHound Inc, makers of the SoundHound, has launched a new voice recognition app, called ‘Hound’ for iOS and Android devices.

The app is simple to use, as all you have to do is to say the name of a song, artist or band and let the application fetch you results with artist info, previews of top songs, a YouTube snippet, lyrics, an iTunes link, a Pandora station link, ringtones, similar artists and sharing options.

It may not seem ideal for searching out what’s playing on the radio, but the app is quite handy when you are looking for a specific song that you want to buy on the go.

So if you want to watch Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ song, you can fire up Hound and simply say “Born This Way”, and there’ll be YouTube links to click on at the bottom of the screen.

In simple words, it’s a good tool to voice search for MP3s on Amazon and videos on YouTube.

Moreover, the app can also quickly recognize songs either played or sung at close range, and will offer information about how and where to buy that song.

Apart from voice search, the app allows you to a hum, whistle or sing a tune into your phone’s mic and it will fetch the track for you. The application is great and works most of the time.

“We want to focus on what will be a revolution in user habits over the next decade. We forecasts voice-based commands will replace touchscreens as the primary way to utilize mobile media devices in the not-too-distant future,” said SoundHound vice president Katie McMahon.

The best part about this app is that it displays all the relevant information for music lovers.
