iPad 3 expected by March, April: Reports

By: Aseem Gaurav on December 12, 2011

There are rumours in the tech world that the third generation of iPad will be out in nearly three to four months’ time after going into production in January next year.

Taipei-based Digitimes claims that component manufacturers are gearing up for a slated March or April release and have started supplying next-gen iPad parts to original equipment manufacturers.

Reports further say that as manufacturers gear up for the new device from Apple, there will be a corresponding decline of 4-5 million units of iPad during the first quarter of 2012. Production of the new iPads is expected to reach 9.5-9.8 million units in the first quarter.

However, in the first quarter, Apple will produce around 14 to 15 million units of iPad 2.

As of now, the information appears to be just rumours and anything concrete will emerge later on.

What to expect in iPad 3:

-- No doubt everyone wish everything to be crammed up in the new device. However, the iPad 3 may sport XVGA touch-screen running at a resolution of 2048*1536. The slightly thicker device should include an A6 chip and -- perhaps -- a larger capacity battery.

-- LTE support may be included after all the delays.
