The Cupertino, California-based iPhone maker reported an all-time record revenue of $46.3 billion in the last three months of 2011, nearly doubling of what is achieved during the holiday-shopping quarter of 2010. In all of fiscal 2011, company sold over 72 million iPhones as against 40 million in 2010. In the iPhone category, Apple is now offering 4S besides its regular models like iPhone 3Gs and iPhone 4. So much is the craze for the device that Apple sold more iPhoens than people born in the world each day during the same period.

Apple sold around 15.43 million iPads during the quarter, which is a whopping 111 per cent higher as compared to the same quarter last year. This suggests that the company sold three times as many iPads as Kindle Fires at twice the price. According to research firm IDC, the volume is higher than PC sales by rivals.

Apple, co-founded by tech icon Steve Jobs, has even exceeded its gross margin, which ended during the quarter at 44.7 percent. A jubilant Apple, buoyed by the results, is predicted a robust year ahead, through strengthening of product distribution channels and opening up of more retail stores.
