By: Aseem Gaurav on May 4, 2012

According to a latest report by research2guidance, tablet users (of iPad and other tablets) will help shape the future mobile app market. The study looked at what the worldwide growth in mobile apps could mean for consumers and developers.

The study revealed that there has been an increase of 58 million in the number of new tablet app consumers, which now constitute 8.6 per cent of the installed app consumer base. Research2guidance expect the tablet app consumers to grow by more than 150 per cent by 2013. It says the growing number of tablet app downloading segment will influence the direction of the app market. Several studies have showed that tablet users show different behaviour towards app downloading/usage and mobile browsing than smartphone users.
Developers are now putting more focus on developing apps for the iPad and other tablets, as in 2011, the number of apps in the Apple App Store for iPad rose 180 per cent.

The report also highlights the fact that a larger number of people are taking their tablets, especially the iPad, at the workplace. This mean there is significant growth potential for apps being developed for enterprise tablet users.

Earlier, IDC has reported that the total worldwide tablet shipments have more than doubled to 17.4 million units in the first quarter. It said iPad has outmuscled its Android-powered tablet computer rivals in early 2012. While the shipments of the iPad dropped slightly during the first quarter, the company still managed to grow its global tablet market share to 68 per cent.
