Dunkin’ Donuts launches mobile payment apps for iOS and Android

By: Aseem Gaurav on August 16, 2012

Fans of Dunkin’ Donuts can rejoice as the coffee and donut chain now offers them the facility to pay through their mobile using the chain’s first mobile pay application.  Dunkin’ decision to go mobile comes just after Starbucks announced a partnership with Square to deliver mobile payments in its 7,000 stores.

Here's how it works: after opening the app, users link the credit or debit card to a virtual Dunkin Donuts card. Thereafter, the app displays a barcode that you can go and show to the cashier who will scan it to accept the payment. The app gives the option to users to add money to an existing card, and even view all previous card transactions. The app supports American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and PayPal.

Furthermore, the users can also get nutritional information, a menu and a franchise locator, through the app.

You can even use the app to send an mGift, which are Dunkin’ Donuts Cards ranging in denomination from $2 to $100 and can be sent virtually, directly from the app via email, text or Facebook.

“We are committed to develop and deliver technology that supports our growth and distinguishes our brand for offering the very best guest experience,” said Nigel Travis, Dunkin’ Brands CEO and Dunkin’ Donuts President, U.S.

Experts see Dunkin’s app launch as part of the industry trend which combines payments, gift cards and loyalty programs.

You can download the free Dunkin' Donuts iOS apps via iTunes and the Google Play store.
