Samsung Galaxy S Duos can run on two carriers simultaneously

For Samsung, it was a fantastic second quarter despite all the distractions from lawsuits and legal battles. According to Gartner, during the quarter, smartphones accounted for over half of the South Korean firm's handset sales with Galaxy range of smartphones contributing a large part of it.

Samsung has now added a powerful model to its Galaxy smartphone family in form of Galaxy S Duos, which it says is designed for users who balance fast-paced work and social lifestyles. It is a dual-SIM smartphone that is heavily inspired by the Galaxy S III, but has got midrange specifications at best.

The best part of Galaxy S Duos is its ability to support two SIM cards (or phone numbers), running on two different networks, on the same phone. According to Samsung, this unique 'Dual SIM Always On' feature, enable users to receive calls on one SIM number while taking a call from the other, thus never missing on work or personal commitments.  "You also have the flexibility of selecting different billing plans for either SIM, switching between them at your convenience," the company said in a statement.

Let me give you a quick rundown on its hardware and specifications. The S Duos will ship with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), which appears surprising to me give that Jelly Bean is already on the market and is shipping with other devices. The phone’s other specifications are pretty decent and are sure to impress you. Galaxy S Duos has a 4.0-inch WVGA (480×800) TFT display, 1 GHz single-core processor, a 5 MP rear camera, a secondary front-facing camera, 4 GB of built-in storage, microSD expansion, all the regular connectivity options, and a 1,500 mAh battery. The Android handset measures 63.1 x 121.5 x 10.5mm, and is pretty compact and weighs just 120 gram. Further, it also comes with Samsung's famous Touchwiz user interface (UI).

The phone can connect to the internet via GPRS, EDGE, 3G and Wifi, and has Bluetooth 3.0 along with micro USB 2.0. S For audio and video listening, the S Duos supports formats such as MP3,eAAC+,WMA, WAV, MP4, H.263, H.264 and WMV.

The S Duos has a standard 1500 mAh Li-ion battery, which may seem too less when compared to Galaxy SIII’s 2,100mAh battery.

The dual-SIM phone also comes preloaded with ChatOn which allows users to communicate with contacts in multiple ways and through various mediums.

Overall, the Galaxy S Duos is sleek, smart, powerful and feature-packed. At the first go, you might say “Hey, who shrunk my S III!?” But it is an exceptionally desirable phone that is good to bring on a business trip or vacation.
