Apple confirms people ordered 2 million iPhone 5 on first day

Apple has confirmed that iPhone 5 preorders have surpassed the two million unit mark in the first 24 hours – twice the amount of preorders it received for the iPhone 4S.

The demand for the new iPhone clearly outstripped supply, which in turn forced the company to push back some orders from the original September 21 to two weeks, or September 28.

Despite such high demand, the company has said that “majority of pre-orders” will be delivered on the official launch date this Friday.

As reported earlier by iPadfanzz.blogspot.com, AT&T said that the new iPhone 5 is the fastest selling iPhone yet, surpassing Apple's previous iPhone sales records. The US carrier is expecting to begin shipping in 14 to 21 business days of all versions of the iPhone 5.

The huge popularity of the company’s new smartphone has also lifted Apple stock. The stock has already increased by over 70 per cent this year.

Analysts predict that Apple could ship between 9 million and 10 million units of the iPhone 5 by September 29, or the last day of [fiscal 2012].
