Apple quietly improving its iOS maps data, first is Statue of Liberty

Recently Apple's new maps service, released as in-house rival to the Google Maps service, drew a lot of flak due to some significant flaws. However, as announced Apple has begun correcting the many inaccuracies and visual anomalies found in its new Maps app.

Among the first to receive the update is the Statue of Liberty which was previously a pixelated mess in Apple’s new homegrown mapping app. After updating its servers, the statue and all of Liberty Island is now rendered in 3D.

Because of the anomalies in the 3D depictions, Apple CEO Tim Cook tendered an apology for the product, admitting that it “fell short” of Apple’s standards. He said the company is working hard on improving the user experience on the new app.

It must be remembered that for years, Google maps service was the default on Apple’s mobile devices. But because of the sour relationship between the two, Apple decided to create its own map service. The decision was also seen to wipe out Google maps as the default location service in the latest upgrade to the iOS software, on which all iPads and iPhones run.

However, a quick glance through some of the errors that immediately surfaced after the software was launched, it shows that they still exists, including bumpy airport runways, melting bridges, and out of date satellite photos. Hopefully, the company will soon get rid of them in order to provide its users a great map experience.
