Dapper Gentlemen's Ugly Meter app exactly serves this purpose. The app, which was around for quite some time, is now creating a buzz in the App Store charts. The app costs $0.99 app, and is available on iPhone, iPod touch and iPad running iOS 3.0 or later.

The app works by scanning a photo of yours or of your friend, by using a number of parameters to give the picture a rating between 1 and 10 on the Ugly Scale. A score of Zero means that you are good looking and 10 means you are the ugliest.

To your surprise there are sound effects and comments thrown in so beware if you come out as a 10. So you know what to expect when you score the highest on the scale. They may range from "You're so hot you make the sun jealous" to downright mean "You're so ugly, you could make a glass eye cry."

The app's tag line is, "When your friends won't tell you the truth, the Ugly Meter will."

The app has become quite popular among the users who are making use of this app for fun purposes.

While according to the company, the app is meant to be a fun app, however, anti-cyber bullying activists warn that the app could encourage teasing and lower a child's self esteem.

Professional networking site LinkedIn has released its long awaited iPad app, which it says will serve as a personal assistant for professionals. The app is an attempt to encourage more users to get involved in the site.

Although LinkedIn took much longer time than Facebook to release an iPad app, the result is a good new look.

The app includes features like: calendar integration, and Linkedin’s personalised news feed, which shows what news articles are popular among friends. The calendar tool of the app syncs with the iPad's system calendar and shows the LinkedIn profiles of people involved in scheduled meetings and appointments.

The app has been designed for a smooth user experience and it takes advantage of the device's high-resolution 'retina' display.

“Our mobile platform is the fastest growing consumer service on Linkedin. We aspire to be the place where every professional comes throughout the day,” wrote Manish Sharma, Linkedin’s product manager, on the LinkedIn blog.

Over the years LinkedIn has carved out a powerful niche in social media, but unlike Facebook users checking the Faebook site everyday, only a third of LinkedIn’s 150 million users use the site daily.

Angry Birds 'Space' soars to popularity; hits 10 million downloads in just three days

Ever since the popular iOS and Android game Angry Birds launched in late 2009, gamers from every age group are always on the lookout for the next edition of the Avian game. No doubt then it is the undisputed leader on the causal gaming arena.

Such is the craze for the game that Rovio's much-anticipated "Angry Birds Space," which is set in outer space, has received 10 million downloads in just three days. The launch of the space version, fourth in the series of the popular game, coincides with the announcement of first Angry Birds activity park which will be launched in April in Finland – where the firm hails from. The park will feature animal spring riders, swings, sandpits and a range of climbing towers with slides. The game costs 99 cents for smartphones and $2.99 for tablets.

The company has also made versions of the game for Macintosh and Windows PCs.  Rovio has also teamed with T-Mobile USA to affix a giant inflatable red bird on a slingshot to Seattle's Space Needle. Nasa was also involved in promoting the game, posting a video showing an astronaut on the International Space Station explaining the laws of physics using Angry Bird characters.

However, handset owners using  on Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Phone platform may have to some more time since the new “Angry Birds Space” edition won’t appear on it, which is a blow to handset maker Nokia Oyj. Rovio said to make it happen the company has to completely rewrite the application. The space agency, which is short of exciting new ventures just now, had one of their astronauts make a video from the International Space Station: a physics lesson involving a plush Angry Bird and a balloon pig.

Some of the effects that are available for download include: 3D effects and additional filters for retro film looks, overexposures, fish-eye-lens views, etc. 

The app will be of great help to journalists as they have to frequently share pictures and videos via Twitter and other sites. The site was launched by Ben Silbermann in March 2010, and nine months after it had only 10,000 visitors, but in 2011, the popularity of Pinterest skyrocketed, making it Time Magazine of '50 Best Websites of 2011' and named the best startup of 2011 by Techcrunch.

In January 2012, tech site TechCrunch earlier reported that the site has achieved 10 million monthly unique U.S. visitors mark, which is faster than any other site in the history of the web. And Pinterest kept growing. And just one month later, the site’s traffic grew 52 percent, from 11.7 million unique visitors in January to 17.8 million in February.

This ranking by Experian, puts the site ahead of Google+, MySpace, Tumblr, Tagged and LinkedIn.

Apple's new iPad tops Consumer Reports' tablet list with retina display being top liked feature

An overwhelming 82 per cent of Apple’s new iPad owners are very satisfied while 16 per cent are somewhat satisfied with their shiny new device, a recent iPad satisfaction survey reveals. The results fade away the doubts and fears that were raised in the media that said the device runs “significantly hotter" than previous models.

The ranking by Consumer Reports said it did not find the considerably hotter temperatures to be cause for concern. “The problem was limited to times when the device was playing a demanding game with the screen fully bright,” it said.

The nonprofit organization also called the new iPad’s high-resolution screen as best among all tablets since it provides the best detail and color accuracy.

The publication also commended the tablet’s fast connectivity and camera. During the survey, nearly 74 per cent of the users appreciated the high-res Retina Display of the new device.

It said, the iPad “establishes a new benchmark of excellence”. However, in contrast the device’s display does, in at least some applications, serve to magnify imperfections in content designed for lower-screen resolution, it emphasized.

The new iPad has been ranked above tablets like: the Toshiba Corp. Excite 10LE, the Pantech Co. Element, the Sony Corp. Tablet P, and Samsung Electronics Co.'s Galaxy Tab 7.7.

Stalker app Girls Around Me pulled from the iTunes App Store

The mobile app ‘Girls Around Me’ which uses geo-location to stalk and find personal information such as full name, photos, and send them messages, has been pulled out of Apple’s iTunes store. The app merged Facebook and Foursquare information with real-time GPS location data, and crossed the line from desperate to downright creepy and scary.

The app, built by the Russian firm i-Free Innovations, has already been yanked out  by Foursquare as the company said it violates Foursquare's API (application program interface) policy.

The app’s working was simple: launch the app and link up your Facebook account and then it will find those nearby “girls” whose Facebook profiles are publicly visible and who have checked into locations using Foursquare. In turn it will return their Facebook profiles.

The app was out for several months already, but after recent online outage, Foursquare took the decision to shut off  ‘Girls Around Me’ API access.
