Kubi tablet stand makes video calls less awkward

By: iPadfanzz staff on January 17, 2013

Kubi (Japanese for "neck") is essentially a tablet stand that can hold a tablet in portrait or landscape mode and allows the caller to remotely pan and tilt the tablet to change their point of view.

Users can easily fit tablets with screen sizes of 7.9” to 10.6”, and tilt and right 300 degrees, and up and down 90 degrees using an iOS and Android app.

Kubi’s creators Marcus Rosenthal and Ilya Polyakov said the idea behind product was to deliver a natural experience that lets your loved ones enjoy and experience without knowing it’s there. The emphasis was on offer a telepresence product that is simple and cost effective, especially when you’re having a round-table meeting.

The product is not completely mobile or not amazingly complex. With Kubi, the controller can look around the room, tilt the camera up and down, and view the entire proceedings of the conference.

The Kubi’s talon is made of two arms, centered on a gear, so it’s easily adjustable to a tablet. Below that, the base can attach to a standard tripod, or be removed for easy packing and travel. The robot can either be wall or battery powered, with the battery lasting for four hours.

To control the Kubi, you can connect through a web portal or Revolve’s app, then connect to each other via Skype, FaceTime, or other chat apps.

No cables are required, as it connects via Bluetooth. The stand is available for pre-order on Indiegogo for $199.
