Popular social networking site Facebook is going after hardcore gamers who spend more time and money of such games in a big way.
A report from Reuters said the company is now helping developers to launch at least 10 new high-quality gaming titles this year. These games will have high quality graphics, full-screen play, and strong story line – most of which is seen in console games. As per the report, the company will get 30 per cent of its revenues from the in-game purchases. In all, Facebook had 226 million players across all its genres.
Some of the games that Facebook is likely to launch in the coming period:
• Offensive Combat, a multiplayer first-person shooter game by U4iA launched on Facebook last month.
• KingsRoad, a medieval adventure game.
• ChronoBlade, a nWay, an action role playing game
Last week, Facebook updated its App Center categories to give “Adventure” and “Action” its own slots. The company says males constitutes most of the audience of this genre, and with 10 per cent going for in-app purchase.
Over the period, the company has overlooked the hardcore players category against the wealth of family-friendly offerings like Zynga Inc's "Farmville" that now dominate the social network's gaming landscape.
Just like the interactivity by hardcore gamers on console game networks like Xbox LIVE, Facebook can now prove to be another important platform where people come and share their score and experiences.
