There will be more mobile devices than people on the earth by the end of 2013, a new report suggests.
As per Cisco's Visual Networking Index Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast Update, the consumer are becoming addictive to mobile phones like never before. It says global mobile data traffic will increase 13-fold by 2017, with more than 10 billion mobile-connected devices by then. At the same time, it expects mobile network speeds to grow by seven times what it is now.

Tablets contributed a lot to the growth in mobile data traffic. In 2012, the number of mobile-connected tablets grew 2.5 times to 36 million, and each tablet generated 2.4 times more traffic than the average smartphone.

The mobile data usage is increasing at a phenomenal speed, the report says, adding that it grew by 70 per cent in 2012, at a double rate than 2011.

Also, mobile videos accounted for 51 per cent of mobile traffic. By 2017, Cisco believes two-thirds of global mobile data traffic will be video.
