Firefighters in Atlantic City took their oaths of office in an unconventional form of using an iPad. Usually a leather-bound Bible is used with the super thin pages outlined with silver or gold leaf where people put their hands on.
The occasion was a meeting to promote a number of Atlantic City Fire Department workers to Battalion Chief and Fire Captain. However, to their surprise no-one had a physical bible in the City Council Chambers. However, the iPad can to the rescue when one of the attendants just happened to be carrying along an Apple iPad. He allowed the Bible app in his device to be used for the swearings in.
It was agreed by ceremony officials that the "unspecified" iPad app was indeed appropriate for the firefighters to take their oaths with. In yesteryears, no Bible meant no ceremony at all.
