Nokia has launched its music streaming service Nokia Music as an app for Windows 8 and Windows RT devices, offering desktop PC, laptop and tablet owners a new way to listen to an almost unlimited amount of albums and singles.
According to Nokia, there are hundreds of titles to choose from Pop to Dub, Blues legends, Ragga, Indietronica, and loads more.
Untill now, Nokia Music was confined to Windows Phone devices built exclusively by the Finnish mobile phone manufacturer. The service offers Nokia Mix Radio functionality which the company says is provided by real people and not machines. It says there is a team at Nokia that creates the unique Mix Radio playlists from approximately 17 million songs. There are AT&T exclusive mixes, featured mixes, top chart mixes, exercise mixes, mood-based mixes, celebrity mixes, and more. Nokia says there are over 150 playlists available. There is even an option to enter in your favourite artists and have Nokia Music develop custom mixes.
In addition, you also have the option of Nokia Music MP3 Store, which offers over 17 million tracks for offline playback, similar to iTunes or the Google Play store. There’s also the option to import an existing library of tracks, for users who fancy just changing their default music player.
To use the Nokia Music app on Windows 8, or a Windows RT device such as the Surface, you’ll need a Nokia Music+ subscription. Costing $3.99 per month in the United States, it gives the Mix Radio a substantial upgrade with unlimited skips, offline playback, higher audio stream quality and on-screen lyrics.
