The motorcycle-wizards-turned-iDevice-accessory-crafter Rokform has now come out with the Rokshield v3, basically a smaller, iPad Mini version of their Roklock case and mounting system. The case offers double solution to consumers who want protection as well options to mount the device. Here’s a quick review of the case:
Rokshield v3’s outer is made up of a polycarbonate shell that is divided into two pieces for easy installation. On the back of the case are four small hexagonal "bumps" that serve to protect the back of the iPad as well as keep the case from sliding when placed on a hard surface. The center of the case houses a clear circular wall mount that can be strapped with built-in 3M adhesive or self-supplied screws, and a unique detachable stand. The case comes with a clear screen film, plus screen cleaning and squeegee tools in each package. The RokShield is shipped with two mounts; one that serves as a rotatable kickstand and another that sticks to any surface (like a wall) for hands-off use of the iPad mini.
“As new devices come to market, it’s our goal to ensure consumers always have a versatile case from Rokform to keep their products safe, while adding a lot more function and fun,” said Steve Petyo, Vice President of Rokform. “Our new iPad Mini case is a great mix of protection, style and creativity and users have seen immediate benefits as compared to other cases during testing.”
Rokshield v3 is a strong and more expensive alternative to Incipio’s NGP, covering most of the iPad mini’s body with rigid plastic. It cover almost the entire iPad Mini except the screen, ports, speakers, cameras, buttons, side switch, and microphone.
The design of the case also makes it easy to install and remove the shell -- although it's quite tight -- is pretty easy as well. The kickstand of Rokshield v3’s works in either portrait or landscape orientation, and can be easily removed.
The case becomes more protective when you add the bumper and screen film. Even with the bumper on, holes remain open on Rokshield’s top, side, bottom, and back, so dust and liquid protection will not be there.
Rokshield v3’s offsets are also well designed which will blend in nicely with the overall looks of the device. The detachable stand has been designing combining rubber, hard plastic, and two metal-pinned joints to support what the company claims are six positions (for video, typing, and FaceTime, etc.)
Overall, Rokshield v3 is a good case and certainly worth a piece for $59 price tag. Rokshield v3 is directly on par with Survivor and ShockDrop.
