Internet radio website Pandora has added 10,000 comedy clips from over 700 comedians to its existing music library.
Big names from the industry including Bill Cosby, Bob Newhart, Cheech & Chong, Chris Rock, Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Jerry Seinfeld, Joan Rivers, Richard Pryor, Mitch Hedberg, feature in the addition.
Pandora calls it Comedy Genome Project which will contain 10,000 clips. Over 700 comedians have been included across 12 genres, namely Today's Comedy, Comedy Icons, Political Comedy and Raw Comedy.
Just like Pandora's Music Genome Project, the new project will stream relevant material based upon user request, like particular comedian, comedy style, or joke.
"Adding comedians to the mix has been one of the top requests from our listeners," wrote Pandora founder and CEO, Tim Westergren in his blog. "It's been a very fun experience, taking what we've learned in music and applying it to a whole new category. Now, instead of talking about 'minor keys,' 'falsetto,' and 'extensive vamping,' our comedy-analysts capture 'odd juxtaposition' (A horse walks into a bar...), 'misdirection' and 'spoonerisms' (a well-boiled icicle, instead of a well-oiled bicycle)."
"Pandora is about creating a great, personalized radio experience. Comedy is a natural part of that experience, and it's something our listeners have been asking us to deliver for a while. We are delighted to now be able to give people a mix of familiar and new comic material that they'll love to listen to."
Pandora debuted in 2000 and since then it has secured a vastly growing user base.
