Invisibility app: Now do some magic with your iPad 2

By: Aseem Gaurav on June 24, 2011

The Invisibility app is surely a magical app. The app uses the iPad 2's rear camera and gyroscope to create a variety of fantastic optical tricks.

The app simulates invisibility of the iPad screen even as the device is in motion. Using a combination of previously-taken picture the iPad 2's 3D gyroscope and accelerometers, the iPad's screen will seem to disappear.

For instance, you take a picture of a stool, then you lay the iPad flat on it. Now as you start rubbing the screen of the iPad the background image of the stool will start appearing, which will make you believe that you can see the stool directly from your iPad. To achieve this, the app uses 100 stationary "frames" per second to ensure that the "stool" below remains stationary. The trick works with other surfaces and environments equally well.

The results are achieved through a technology called Pantomime, which combines real-time 3D motion sensing with software models of the iPad's shape and other dimensions.

You can purchase the app for $1 and it requires iOS 4.3 or higher (current version recommended).
