Nintendo unveils new gaming console Wii U, coming in 2012

Japanese gaming giant Nintendo has introduced a successor to its Wii videogame console, dubbed the Wii U, with a controller featuring a touchscreen and camera.

The Wii U will offer high-definition graphics—something which was long demand by the consumers – along with a controller that features a 6.2-inch touchscreen. The new controller also has gyroscope and accelerometer for tilt control. Besides it has also got full traditional Nintendo stick and button controls on either side of the screen, a microphone, speakers, triggers on the back, and an inward facing camera.

The console’s key feature is the way the touchscreen controller interacts with your TV screen. A user can use both the TV and controller screen at the same time.

The company has tried to keep the device simple as instead of a hand-sized game pad studded with joysticks and buttons, the Wii U is more like a tablet computer. A lot similar like Amazon Kindle – a few more buttons and a color screen.

One of the company’s executive said the system is tailor made for users and it can change the way you game personally and the way you play with your family and friends.

The color touch screen of the gadget allows imparts more information to the gamer, like maps, inventory information, or different camera angles.

The pricing of Wii U is still not clear. The company’s move to introduce the device is an avid example of how the gaming companies are now focusing on innovations. Nintendo’s focus on touchscreen is something that looks inspired by iPad, which the company said will be ideal for those who want to search through online libraries of movies and other forms of entertainment.

The Wii is the top-selling home videogame system with 86 million units sold as of March 2011.
