Within eight months flat, Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 Marketplace has achieved a milestone of over 25,000 apps.

Though there was no official confirmation from the Microsoft, the news came from Windows Phone Applist, which have been tacking the number of applications in the Windows Phone Marketplace, which said the exact number of apps are 25,076.

In comparison, Google took about 15 months to hit the milestone for the Android marketplace.

Analysts say it's still a strong number considering the time around which it has started.

Of the 25,000+ apps, most of them are games, closely followed by eBooks. Moreover, half of them are also free. The WP7 store is growing at a rate of around 3,100 apps a month.

Some of the stats:

75 percent of the apps are in English
18 percent of the apps are games
51 percent of apps are free
There are about 7,000 published app developers.
