A ‘tasteless’ Steve Jobs ad in Taiwan draws ire of Apple fans

By: Aseem Gaurav on February 6, 2012

Apple fanboys and fangirls were treated to a tasteless ad as a Steve Jobs look-alike angel complete with white wings and a halo was shown in a Taiwanese television commercial.

The 20-second ad for the Action Electronics Action Pad tablet PC, which uses Google’s Android operating system, featured a local Taiwanese comedian A-Ken, has been widely criticized for being “tastless,” “shameless,” and derogatory to a man of Steve Jobs’ stature. A-ken was dressed in Jobs’ trademark black turtleneck sweater and blue jeans.

The commercial begins with A-Ken saying: “I’d like to present to you a new generation of tablets. It's amazing. I finally have another Pad to play with."

Immediately following the ad, strong opposing voices were heard here in the United States.

Steve jobs, the iconic creator of all things Apple – the iPhone, iPad, iPod, iMac and iTunes – was recently named as the second 'greatest innovator of all time' in the annual Lemelson-MIT Innovation Index, behind the inventor of the first practical electric light bulb -- Thomas Edison.
