Facebook launches App Center in India

Just a month after its US launch, social media giant Facebook has opened its application store – App Center – in India and six other countries. The App Center showcases more than 600 Facebook and Facebook-related apps that use Facebook login. The Center helps people find games and other useful apps that one can use inside Facebook.com.

Besides the US, the App Center is now available to everyone in Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. The company will soon be launching it in France, Brazil, Russia, Germany, Spain, Taiwan, and Turkey.

Users can install apps for Android and iPhone devices that require or offer Facebook logins. However, it could not be considered as a replacement to Apple’s App Store or Google Play, but as a centralized place to find apps that you like. The App Center includes a section to easily accept or block all your game and app request.

The global rollout is extremely crucial for the Palo Alto, California, based Facebook, since over 80 per cent of its active users are located outside the US. The expansion will also help the company increase its installs to mobile, canvas and web apps. Facebook has over 900 million monthly active users across the world.

In early June, Facebook launches its App Center which includes apps like Ubisoft Ghost Recon Commander, Stitcher Radio, Nike+, Stitcher Radio, Draw Something and Pinterest.

According to Facebook, games like Disney's Marvel: Avengers Alliance, War Commander and Battle Pirates, have reported more engagement, a boost in installs and a better than average revenue per user than other platforms.

The company has added the App Center link at the lefthand sidebar of every desktop Facebook page. Clicking on that link will take the users to browse the apps in different categories.
