After a long old wait, Pinterest have finally unveiled their Android and iPad apps. Pinterest co-founders Ben Silbermann and Evan Sharp announced this at their San Francisco headquarters.

Designed to boost its appeal to wider audience, the new iPad app takes advantage of the large screen to make it easy to pin things. According to the company the iPad app is perfect for use in home or outdoors to discover and pin the things that interest you.

Pinterest also says the iPad owners can now engage with pins through swiping the screen to resume browsing after viewing a board, as well as use embedded browser to see what others are pinning from their favorite sites.

The Palo Alto-based company has also introduced a custom-designed Android app that works well on Android smartphones and tablets irrespective of how fast the device is or the size of the screen.

At the same time, the company has also launched an updated app for iPhone users which brings the two-column layout to see more of their content and find what they want more quickly.

After making debut two years ago, the user base of Pinterest, which lets users share items of interest discovered on the Web by ‘pinning’ images to a board, has grown tremendously. With over 23 million members, Pinterest is now the third most popular social networking site, just behind Twitter and Facebook.
