In its product launch event in San Jose, California, Apple surprisingly launched its new 4th generation iPad. Apple's Phil Schiller said the new tablet is equipped with new A6X processor, which offers twice the power of the A5X processor seen in the previous iPad 3.

The new tablet has received a lot of tweaks in terms of hardware. The iPad 4 gets dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, Sprint and KDDI compatible LTE, a 720p FaceTime camera round front and the new image processor like in the iPhone 5.

The 4th Generation iPad comes complete with the new Ligthning connector. However, other iPad 4 specs remain the same, including the 10-hour battery life and the dual colour tone.

The tablet will cost same as the predecessor: a 16GB WiFi version for $499 and a 16GB model with cellular data on board costs $629.

Experts feel the launch could lead to a tablet war and the main impact would be seen at the time of Christmas.

In the US, it will cost like this:

16GB Wi-Fi only, $499
16GB LTE, $629
32GB Wi-Fi only, $599
32GB LTE, $729
64GB Wi-Fi only, $699
64GB LTE, $829
