After a successful pilot scheme earlier this year, Westminster City Council has announced that it will soon replace all of the 14,000 of its street lights that can be controlled with an iPad. The ‘smart’ street lights will be altering the council if they get broken or when a bulb is about to fail.
The project would incur £3.25 million ($5.2 million) investment and will be installed in the next four years.
The new lighting system will be part of the UK’s first electronically monitored lighting infrastructure.
The city engineers can easily change the brightness of the street light through few steps on the iPad.
