Apple has again brought to consumers a blockbuster tablet that is super slim and super fast. It comes after selling 100 million of them. It has a smaller 7.9-inch display (the regular iPad has a 9.7-inch screen) and marks Apple’s first foray into the smaller tablet segment. The tablet fit perfectly in-between the full sized iPad and the iPhone. The iPad mini scores high on portability and you’d always to love to take it with you everywhere you go. So let’s take a look at top 10 features that makes it different from the pack.
Display
It offers 1024x768 screen resolution with 163 pixels per inch. Although it is less than the Retina display's 2048x1536 screen (264 pixels per inch) and that of Nook HD’s 243-pixel-per-inch display. However, it is still crispy and offers colors and viewing angle are on a par with the Retina screens. The iPad mini display has the same LED backlight technology as the iPad to give you lots of pop per square inch.
Portability
The iPad Mini is an amazingly thin tablet, thinner even than Apple's iPhone 5. It weighs just under 0.7 pounds, the same as the lightest of those 7-inch tablets. That makes it easy to hold, even for a longer period. The portability of iPad mini also makes it a perfect companion for traveling. The tablet comes with a metal case, not a plastic one like the Nexus and Kindle Fire, so it gives it a more solid and durable feel.
Performance
The device is running on the same 32-nm A5 dual-core chip that first powered the iPad 2 before making its way into the iPhone 4S. This makes the tablet zipping along quickly from the little things like switching from app to app and swiping from page to page, to editing photos, watching movies, and playing games.
iPad mini Connectivity
The iPad mini features advanced Wi‑Fi that's up to twice as fast as any previous-generation iPad. With dual-band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) 802.11n Wi‑Fi and support for channel bonding, download speeds can reach up to 150 Mbps. The tablet now sports Apple’s new Lightning connector, which debuted on the iPhone 5. Another way to connect the iPad mini is through Wi‑Fi + Cellular. Apple is soon to roll out a 4G LTE version for iPad Mini.
Battery Life
Apple promises an impressive 10-hr battery life inside the iPad mini. That’s more than near rivals.
Stereo speakers
The iPad mini is good in terms of sound. It has got stereo speakers instead of the mono speakers on the bigger iPads, but you'll have to be up close to hear the stereo effect.
iOS 6
The iPad mini will use iOS 6, which has been in news for bad comments lately. As of now, over 60 percent of all iOS devices are now running the latest version of the operating system. It includes all the built-in apps you use every day and all the intuitive technology — like Multi‑Touch and Siri.
Apps
Apple is giving the same experience of reading and using apps on the smaller version of the iPad. Read magazines, books, or check mail and send messages, just like you’d do on the larger iPad. In addition, you can map out your next adventure and shoot it in 1080p HD. You can even ask Siri to help you find the best pizza in town. The tablet lets you access over 275,00 beautiful, immersive, and made-just-for-iPad apps. Although it is far from mind blowing, it is still ahead in terms of performance. Most app developers tailor their software to run on several generations of iOS devices, so there aren't many applications that will push the A5 chip to its limits.
Cameras
The cameras are the same as those on the iPad with Retina display, including 720p video and a 5MP camera. It is not at par with some of the high-end smartphone camera, but it still good for basic photography. The iSight camera on iPad mini lets you capture your amazing moments in 1080p HD. With automatic video stabilization, your recording is free of bumps and shakes.
Pricing
iPad mini comes in 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB in both Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + Cellular options.
16GB Wi-Fi only iPad mini is priced at $329, 32GB at $429, and 64GB costs $529.
