Apple releases iOS 6.1 update, brings additional LTE carriers, Siri movie ticket support

Apple has released a software update for iphone and iPads that speeds up data downloads on some major overseas telecom networks and a handful of small US carriers.


The iOS 6.1 lets users in the Unitee States purchase a movie ticket through Fandango via Apple's voice-assistant Siri. Similarly, iTunes Match subscribers can now download individual songs to iOS devices from iCloud.

Apple also said the new update adds the ability to access the " LTE" networks of 36 additional iPhone carriers. Those include Alaska Communications, Bluegrass Cellular of Kentucky and C Spire of Mississippi. On the global level, they include major carriers in Italy, Denmark, Finland, Croatia, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.

“iOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, FaceTime video calls, iCloud services, and iTunes and App Store downloads," the company said in a statement.

“The update will include maps with Apple-designed cartography, turn-by-turn navigation and Flyover view,” the statement added.

Other features included in the update include redesigned playback controls on the lockscreen, minor changes in Safari and slight changes to boarding passes in Apple's Passbook software.
