Lenovo unveils 27-inch IdeaCentre Horizon Table PC

Lenovo has unveiled a home tabletop touch-screen computer. Called the IdeaCenter Horizon Table.

It is a full-fledged, battery-powered desktop PC, that can be collapsed into a table-top mode, making it into a 27-inch, 1080p tablet optimized for multi-user touch input. It is needless to mention that this makes it perfect for Windows 8.


According to a company spokesperson, it is a new category and it is also the world’s first home table personal computer. It said, the “multi-user, multi-touch and multi-mode” makes it easy for several people to use simultaneously for activities such as games and for individual endeavors such as updating Facebook.

Lenovo worked with videogame industry players like Ubisoft and Electronic Arts to tailor titles for group play on Horizon table computers.

The Horizon offers variants of air hockey, a top-down shooting game, a multiplayer board game, along with many casino-style games. Lenovo is also reportedly in talks with many companies for a socially engaging gameplay.

The table PC comes with a battery life of 2 hours and its own skin called Aura. Horizon is designed with touch screen controls in mind and recognizes commands from as many as 10 fingers at a time. The PC measures 27 inches diagonally, and offers a prop up stand if in case you want to use it as a TV.

Lenovo is likely to showcase a slew of Horizon games and applications at CES.

The company is also selling wheeled stands and joysticks as separate accessories. The Horizon is expected to retail at $1699 and expected to ship sometime middle of the year.
