Yahoo has acquired Snip.it, a young San Francisco Pinterest-like service that lets people create scrapbooks with articles, pictures, videos and other content found online.

Informing users about the development, Snip.it posted a message on its website saying it was “joining forces” with Yahoo and that the service was not longer available.

"For the past year and a half, we've worked tirelessly as a team to build the best social news platform on the Web," Snip.it said in the message. "We are thrilled at the opportunity to bring Snip.it's vision to a larger scale at Yahoo!" Snip.it launched in late 2011 as a place where people could share digital "scrapbooks" based on topics or themes of their choosing.

However, users wishing to download their data from the site can do by clicking a “Download my data” button halfway down the page.

However, it is still not clear what Snip.it would be working on at Yahoo. Further, financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed but unformed reports suggest that it could be in the tune of $15 million.
