BitTorrent has launched a new person-to-person file sharing service which allows people to share large files up to a Terabyte (1024GB) at once. The facility could be of great use to musicians, filmmakers and photographers, and other professionals who want to send large files.

SoShare combines BitTorrent file transfer technology with cloud caching, which makes it possible for the recipient to access the files even when the sender is offline.

After creating an account, a user needs to do is enter the recipient's e-mail address along with a message and can then attach the files through the browser. The other user will then download the link and a thumbnail preview of the files which can be then downloaded by the recipient without the need to sign-up.

It must be noted that SoShare keeps copes of files available for up to 30 days, unless a user device to download beforehand. Users need to install a plugin to upload or download files, but it’s not necessary to register in order to access shared files.

Catherine Meek, Director of Product Management at BitTorrent, in tweet said, “There are 3.34 million Americans employed in creative industries. They work in large file formats – photo, audio, film. And their work is dependent on being able to send and deliver these large file formats to collaborators and clients. Right now, doing so is costly and difficult.”

The file sharing service is not charging anything from the users, however, the company in future may look at different options to monetize the service down the line.
