By: iPadfanzz staff on February 1, 2013

Design

Both the phones differ a lot in terms of design. While the iPhone 5 comes with an industrial design that includes metal, aluminum and a bit of glass to hold it all together, the Z10 is a sleek looking device but made of plastic. The iPhone 5 is 7.6 mm thick while BlackBerry Z10 is of 9 mm in size. At the same time the Apple phone is about 58.6 mm wide whereas the BlackBerry Z10 is 66 mm wide. In terms of weight, the iPhone 5 weighs 112 gram as compared to BlackBerry Z10’s weight of 137.5 grams. Of the two phones, the iPhone undeniably has the more solid, premium, and precise build quality.

Hardware

The mighty fast iPhone 5 comes with 'insanely great' A6 processor which is believed to be clocked at 1.3 Ghz and comes with 1GB RAM. The A6 chip is 22 per cent smaller than the A5 and hence it is more energy-efficient which doubles all-round CPU and graphic capabilities. At the same time, BlackBerry uses a dual core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 mobile processor coupled with 2 GB RAM. This mobile processor has been used in several devices such as HTC Windows Phone 8X and Nokia Lumia 920. This processor is coupled with Adreno 225, which supports full 1080p HD video playback and richer 3D graphics games.

Screen size and display

The Z10 comes with a 4.2 inch LCD touchscreen display – the largest display ever used by the company for a smartphone. The display supports multi-touch sensitivity of up to four points and supports 1280 x 768 pixel resolution natively. The iPhone 5 offers a 4 inch Retina Display based on IPS panel with 1136 x 640 pixel native resolution. The Z10’s display is bit more and packs more pixels. On a close examination, the Z10 offers a sharper display. The iPhone 5 has an advantage of lower pixel density that enables it to reproduce brilliant colours.

Memory

The Z10 comes with a memory of 16 GB and a microSD slot with 32 GB as the maximum space limit. The iPhon 5 is available in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB versions.

Camera

Both the phones feature 8-megapixel rear-facing cameras, but the Z10 has a higher-resolution 2 MP front camera. The iPhone 5 has one of the best cameras available in the market capable of creating seamless, high-res panoramas up to 28 megapixels. The Z10’s main ceamera comes with autofocus, 5x digital zoom, and options for burst mode and stabilization. The phone’s Time Shift mode allows users to take an array of photos, and revisit them along a timeline to pick the best one. There are scene modes (like action and night) and you can choose to take pictures in a 3:4 or 9:16 ratio. (For more on TimeShift, see the full BlackBerry 10 OS review.)

The images in iPhone 5 are crispier and of good quality and the photos in the Z10 are not bad either. When it comes to videos both the phones score good as they give clear and clear audios.

Usability of Operating System

The iPhone 5 is running Apple’s iOS 6 and is smooth, simple and offers loads of choices in terms of mobile apps. The BB10, on the other hand, focuses more on delivering messaging and support for corporate management. The Z10 OS is a cool, gesture-driven software and comes with a virtual keyboard. The Z10’s connectivity options include Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, and comes with the good stuff of texting, chatting with other BlackBerry users, and sharing stuff to social networks.

Mobile apps

The Z10 fulfills you social networking needs with apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and LinkedIn. In addition to social apps, it also offers Flixster, Box, and Dropbox, the awesome Angry Birds Star Wars, and Slacker Radio. On the other hand, Apple’s iOS comes with a huge and extremely popular repertoire of mobile apps. In 2012 alone, users downloaded nearly 20 billion of mobile apps and in December, the company received a record-breaking two billion downloads. Apple said that iOS developers have built 775,000 apps for the platform (includingiPhone, iPad and iPod touch) and the company has paid more than $7 billion to developers.

Business use

Enterprise customers are the bread and butter of the Canada-based company. The BlackBerry Z10 serves this demographic well with BlackBerry Balance, which helps separate sensitive business apps from your personal ones, with the help of your corporate IT manager. There are privacy settings and RIM's signature encrypted servers, plus parental controls -- not to mention remote wiping with BlackBerry Protect. With Z10, it is easy for a company to pass this phone to get work-approved apps.

Battery

The Z10 has a higher capacity batter than the iPhone's. Unlike Apple's, it's also removable: great for business customers on the go.

Call Quality

The cal quality on Z10 is pretty good but not ‘ultra-crisp.’

Connections

The BlackBerry Z10 has 4G LTE, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 support. The iPhone 5 does not have an NFC option like the BB Z10.

Performance

The Z10 supports 4G LTE, HSPA+, and global roaming without question. At peak speeds, though, the Z10 loaded sites quickly and you can easily play back videos and play games smoothly.
