By: iPadfanzz staff on February 19, 2013

Recently, the twitter account of food giant Burger King was anonymously hacked, changing the profile picture of the corporation to a McDonald's logo and posting offensive tweets.

Although the hacking came as a surprise to many, it in turn proved to be beneficial for gaining new followers. Burger King's followers, which numbered around 50,000 as of Monday evening, shot up to more than 110,000, according to a report published on a tech website.

At one point, Burger King's profile message read that the company was just sold to McDonald's because the Whopper flopped, referring to Burger King's flagship sandwich.

It is not surprise that hacking of Twitter account could be of extreme embarrassment to the company which is trying too hard to gain new customers.
