In a move that is sure to heat up the US smartphone market, Samsung Electronics said it will launch its new smartphone under the Galaxy S series on March 14 in New York. In comparison, the Galaxy S III was announced last year at an event in London.
It will be the first US launch of Samsung's flagship Galaxy smartphone in three years, company spokeswoman Chenny Kim has said. It is one of this year’s most hotly-anticipated smartphone and will include improvements in quad-core processor, camera and display. Rumours suggest that the company will launch a handset with a 5-inch 1080pf display, with a 1.8GHz 8-core Exynos 5 Octa processor. Other rumoured specs include 2 GB of RAM, ARM's Mali-T658 GPU, and a 13-megapixel rear camera.
The Galaxy S series has been received well by consumers across the world. In January, the company announced that Galaxy S shipments had topped 100 million, with the Galaxy S III alone contributing 41 million units.
