Why America loves the iPad

By: iPadfanzz staff on February 17, 2013

A computer tablet like an iPad is near ubiquitous in the American society whether it is the corporate world, schools of Chicago, airlines flying out of America, or just in the hands of plain gadget lovers. Some of the reasons why people rush to buy the iPads, is its price, battery life, and "tremendous form factor." If the original iPad was amazing then the iPad Mini fits better into the landscape of much smaller devices.

Right from its launch, Apple knew that the iPad will prove good in terms of mass appeal. It has been a fabulous ride since then with the company releasing new upgraded version, at regular intervals. Although dozens of new players in form of Google, Samsung, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and now even Microsoft, have entered the arena, Apple is still leading the race with the iPad.

It is not surprise that most of the Americans love tablets and especially the iPad. The Pew Research Center’s latest research data showed that a full 25 per cent of Americans own some type of tablet. Tablet ownership in the country exceeds that of e-reader ownership, despite the higher cost of entry and generally poorer book-reading experience. For Americans it is hard to ignore a multi-function device over feature specific device. Recently, Oprah revealed that Microsoft’s Surface tablet is one of her “Favorite Things” of 2012. Then, she tweeted “Gotta say love that SURFACE! Have bought 12 already for Christmas gifts.” Interesting to note that the tweet was sent from an iPad.

Americans certainly want to embrace new technology and don’t want to remain stuck in the past. The last two generations of full-size iPads come with Retina display screens. The iPad 4 was powered by the all-new A6X chip from Apple, which meant double the chip speed and superior graphic performance. The iPad 4 also featured "ultra-fast" Wi-Fi that actually doubled the connection speed as compared to the iPad 3. Amazingly, over 275,000 apps have been especially produced for Apple's slate, which is indeed a unique proposition when it comes to playing games on a computer tablet.

Although the iPad 4 is not cheap, it sells at Apple's same price point of $499 for Wi-Fi-only and $529 for LTE -- but this is the best tablet experience you can possibly have in 2012. Its super-fast, its lightweight and opens a whole new world of multimedia consumption. The iPad can be used for a lot many purposes including watching high-definition movies and TV shows, browsing the web, play games, chat over video, shoot pictures, catch up on e-mail, read books, articles, or get education through the web. The iPad excels in all these areas.

Interestingly, if Apple’s ‘iPad’ were its own tech company, it would be America’s 11th largest. What’s even more impressive is if Apple move its iPad business into another division, it would actually make it into the Fortune 500.

Besides normal multimedia content consumption, Americans also love the iPad for its usage in business and other productive purposes like capturing digital signatures, telephony and communications, and computer-aided design.

We may agree that if you’re price conscious or want something that fits in your budget, then in some way you are lowering the perceived value of the device. The iPad is clearly still the tablet to beat for competitors. But given the large availability of choices, the market is still wide open.
