Google has officially launched Keep, its note-taking service and app that lets users key-in quick notes and lists, and also attach pictures with them. The service also allows users to sync their notes and to-do lists across their computer, phone and tablet using Google account.
In addition, Google Keep lets users to take pictures via the device’s camera and save them as notes, besides enabling them to speak and convert voice memos to text. There’s even a lock screen widget which means you quickly create notes even when the phone is locked on devices running the latest version - 4.2 of Android Jelly Bean OS.
After installing the Keep app in Android, you need to fill your Google account details. After that you can start taking notes. In total, you can enter a note through four methods.
A quick note directly from the text box on the initial screen.
Add a checklist by tapping on the check mark icon.
Create a voice memo by tapping on the microphone. All memos are instantly transcribed, keeping both the audio and text in the note.
Add a photo as a note by tapping on the camera.
At any time you can add a checklist to an existing note by tapping on the menu button and selecting "Show Checkboxes."
The app gives you the facility to assign a colour to the note which makes it easy to organize them. As of now you have to change the color manually for each note. It is better to create categories and automatically assign colors based on those categories.
Once you're done with a note you can archive it by swiping in either direction across the note.
The notes can be rearranged by holding on a note and drag it to where you want it. You can change the layout between multicolumn and single-column view through the menu.
