Yahoo has partnered with Dropbox to offer users of the webmail services to share files online. This will be sorts of its in-house cloud storage solution.
Yahoo said the Dropbox integration is part of the company’s focus on making Yahoo! Mail easier to use.
“The way we see it, you should be able to go into your inbox, do what you need to do and move on with your day,” said David McDowell, senior director of product management for Yahoo Mail in a blog post.
As a user it means that you can sidestep the 25MB file size limit on e-mailed attachments. Users can also save files directly to Dropbox from Yahoo Mail. The integration is available in the English, French, Spanish, German and Italian versions of Yahoo Mail. Users who don't already have Dropbox can create accounts within the e-mail service.
The partnership will prove extremely useful to Yahoo which has the third most used mail service behind Gmail and Hotmail. Both Gmail and Hotmail already offer integrated cloud storage in the form of Google Drive and SkyDrive respectively.
