Elgato HDHomeRun streams and records live TV on Macs, PCs, iOS

Elgato has introduced the HDHomeRun, a networked, dual-tuner device that connects to a router and TV antenna and streams HD TV content via Wi-Fi anywhere inside the house.

The device lets you watch and record over-the-air (ATSC) or unencrypted digital cable (Clear QAM) signals on a combination of two Macs or PCs at the same time.

All users have to do is to attach the device to a TV antenna or cable TV outlet, and it is ready to stream HD TV content wirelessly on a PC or iPad, anywhere inside the house. The Hybrid allows one user to watch a show on one computer, and a second user to watch another show on a different computer. Users can also record shows in 1080i HD resolution and even schedule programs to be recorded over a full season.

The device can be highly useful for those users who want to watch television channels of their choice. It also helps to covert PCs into TVs in a small area.

Elgato HDHomeRun will also let users record TV programs just in case you’re not home or you want to relive your favorite shows again. If you have an iOS device, you can also use the EyeTV app that lets you stream your live and recorded TV shows onto it over 3G.

HDHomeRun comes with EyeTV 3, the TV software for Mac, which allows you to watch, pause, and rewind live TV on your Mac. With EyeTV, users can export recordings automatically to iTunes for playback on iOS devices and can also stream live and recorded TV to iOS devices via the EyeTV app.

"This new platform satisfies two requests that many of our customers have made: viewing of HDTV content on multiple household computers and inconspicuous placement of the device itself," said Adam Steinberg, Elgato's VP of Marketing. "HDHomeRun is designed to give our customers maximum flexibility. Whether it's Mac or PC, capturing a TV signal from either an antennae or cable or being able to view and record different content on multiple computers, HDHomeRun can accomplish it all."

The HDHomeRun with EyeTV 3 software will cost you $179.95 through Amazon, the Apple Store, B&H Photo, and Elgato’s own online store.
