Apple to open another 30 to 35 retail stores next year

Apple is willing to expand its retail empire to a even more. As part of Apple's 10-K filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Cupertino-based Apple said it plans to open 30 to 35 additional Apple Stores by September 2013. It further said about three-quarters of those stores would be located outside the United States.


As per the filing, the company plans to spend nearly $850 million on its expansion in the retail infrastructure. This is part of $10 billion the US company has earmarked to spend in its 2013 financial year, which runs from October to September.

Apple ended its fourth fiscal quarter of current year with 390 retail stores around the world. Out of these 250 are in the United States. During the quarter, these stores reported 94 million visitors, a massive feat by all means.

"We received 22 per cent increase in traffic during the quarter, from 77.5 million a year ago to 94 million visitors as of now. That translates to 19,000 per store, per week," said," Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer.

According to Oppenheimer the average revenue per store was $11.2 million.

During the quarter, the company reported revenues of $36 billion by logging in mammoth $8.2 billion in profit. The profit came from selling 26.9 million iPhones, 14 million iPads, and 4.9 million Macs.
