Micromax launches Canvas HD in India for Rs 15,000

Micromax is leaving no stone unturned is making its grip even stronger in the smartphone market in the country. The homegrown mobile handset maker Micromax has now come out with a new phablet called Canvas HD. The smartphone primarily caters to those consumers who want to own a phablet like Samsung Galaxy Note II and HTC Butterfly but consider them too expensive.


The Micromax A116 Canvas HD is powered by MediaTek's MT6589 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Its other impressive specifications include a 5-inch HD IPS screen that supports HD resolution (1280x720) and a colour depth of 16.7 million.

The phablet sports a 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and 4X zoom. It includes 1GB RAM and 4GB of internal storage, which can be expanded to up to 32GB via microSD card.

Talking to press on the launch of the new phone, Deepak Mehrotra, CEO, Micromax, said, "Today's launch marks our association with MediaTek to bring forth our first quad core phone in this segment, offering consumers a great user experience with latest features and added functionality." He further added, "We are excited with the success of Canvas 2, which has clearly established Micromax as number one player in the new 5-inch phablet category in India. We are looking forward to similar success with the new phone being unveiled today. We plan to launch 30 smartphones this year," said Deepak Mehrotra, Chief Executive Officer at Micromax.

Micromax said that Canvas HD would be available in the first week of February at a price of less than Rs 15,000.
